"Introduction to Nonparametric Regression" describes the usage of MinGW for producing dll files form fortran files. MinGW is often updated so that let me show you the updated usage:

(1) Go to the web page below

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=2435

(2) Click "MinGW 5.1.4", then "MinGW-5.1.4.exe" is downloaded.

(3) Execute "MinGW-5.1.4.exe", then the "MinGW 5.1.4" is installed. "MinGW base tools" and "g77 compiler" should be chosen as options.

(4) Move "f771.exe" stored in "C:\MinGW\libexec\gcc\mingw32\3.4.5" into "C:\MinGW\bin".

(5) Place your fortran program file (e.g. "test1.f") in "C:\MinGW\bin".

(6) Execute the command below in "C:\MinGW\bin".

g77 -shared -o test1.dll test1.f

(7) You will find "test1.dll" in "C:\MinGW\bin".

(8) That is it. "dllwrap" is not required for this purpose.

You can find "Introduction to Nonparametric Regression" at the site of John Wiley and Sons by specifying the keyword "takezawa".

(7) K. Takezawa, May 2005

"Introduction to Nonparametric Regression" is, the author believes, the most reader-friendly nonparametric regression book in the world. The explanations are plain and derivations of mathematical forms are described very clearly. In addition, S-plus and R codes shown in the book enable readers to realize calculations on nonparametric regression without any difficulty. This is a must book for anyone who learn the basics of nonparametric regression and/or use it practically.

(6) K. Takezawa, May 2005

"Introduction to Nonparametric Regression" is a close translation of the Japanese edition. However, the English edition is a one volume book while the Japanese edition consists of two volumes; this reflects the requirement by the publisher. As a result, the chapters on Wavelets, tree-based model, and neural networks were omitted. The reason of this deletion is that there are a good many books on these topics in the market. The author hopes, however, that the readers of the English edition will get a perspective of the role of nonparametric regression to elucidate these techniques.

(5) K. Takezawa, May 2005

"Introduction to Nonparametric Regression" has sections of "Problem" (i.e., exercises) following each chapter. The Japanese edition does not contain equivalent sections, but the publisher of the English edition requested the addition of these pages. Some readers may find most problems too easy. In fact, answers to some problems will be given instantaneously. The author intends that these encouraging problems will give readers much confidence. If you need more challenging problems, you will find them easily in other (i.e., competing) textbooks in this field.
